Asbestos has been used extensively in some 500,000 buildings in the UK over the last decades. Where removal is required Silverdell, as one of the largest independent contractors in the UK, has the infrastructure, expertise and flexibility to complete all sizes of project – from the small-scale to large multi-million pound contracts.
We apply the asbestos removal technique that is most appropriate to the project, and document what we do with detailed method statements designed to ensure adherence with best practice at all times. We have a highly experienced specialist labour force, supported by one of the largest plant portfolios in the industry.
All of the projects we undertake are managed to comply with industry legislation, approved codes of practice and HSE guidance notes. Rigorous audits ensure that all quality control procedures are maintained, both internally and by external independent organisations.
We are members of ARCA, dedicated to the promotion of best practice in Asbestos Removal, and are also members of HVCA. We have ISO 9001:2000 certification for quality assurance, and OHSAS 18001:2007 and CHAS accreditation for health and safety. We are registered with Constructionline, and are approved by Achilles – Verify and UVDB.
Our commitment to quality assurance is demonstrated by the number of long-term relationships we continue to have with many of our major clients. These range from the public sector organisations – education, NHS, housing and local authorities – to private sector clients, including most of the major contractors trading currently in the UK.
Our approach to asbestos removal and disposal is designed to ensure business continuity and minimise our clients’ inconvenience. We are experienced working in challenging environments and on prominent buildings, including many of special architectural interest - often working at height, where asbestos use has been extensive, and may pose additional risk due to its poor condition. Our Construction Division [Link] offers additional services that enable our clients to make-good following those removal works where full refurbishment is not planned.
Our systematic approach and customer commitment combine to ensure we satisfy a project’s requirements at every stage - from the first negotiation right through to completion. We are one of few contractors to work on an 'open book' accounting basis, where the financial aspects relating to the project and our organisation are made available to our clients as part of a partnering agreement.
We are fully licensed contractors, operating licensed waste transfer stations under Environment Agency Guidelines.
